Used Hybrid Cars: Honda Insight

If you are considering purchasing a used hybrid car, you really cant go wrong with the Honda Insight. It runs on both a petrol and an electric motor, so you know that you’re doing something good for the environment. And if you look at used hybrid cars, you know you’re doing something good for your wallet as well!

The Honda Insights power system is truly revolutionary. It uses Honda’s integrated motor assist hybrid technology, which involves, as mentioned above, a standard Honda petrol powered engine and
and electric engine as well. The electric engine provides extra power when needed, but doesn’t burn precious fuel. The electric engine runs on a series of connected batteries which are recharged via energy recapture, such as regenerative braking. This means that when you apply the brakes, the energy from the brakes friction is captured and converted to electrical energy, which is then used to keep you moving when you take the brakes off.

The interior is roomy and comfortable. Many would even describe it as luxurious! And when you’re seated in the plush drivers seat, you find that the Honda Insight is an absolute pleasure to drive.

Now, you might be thinking “Well, that all sounds marvelous, but surely such an amazing car costs a fortune?” Not so! The sale price of a new Honda Insight hybrid is comparatively very reasonable, compared with cars that boast similar features. But a new car loses a huge chunk of its value as soon as you drive it out of the showroom so buying a second hand Honda Insight is smart to do. The advantages of buying your Honda Insight second hand are numerous: you don’t lose that value immediately after your purchase, you save a whole lot of money, and your car is still covered by a warranty- either the manufacturers or the second hand car dealerships guarantee. So you really can’t lose!

So if you want to save money, save the environment, and save yourself a lot of time, trouble and effort, don’t bother checking hundreds of makes and models. Don’t bother spending your hard earned cash on a car that will only ever cost you money. Buy yourself a Honda Insight hybrid from a trusted second hand car dealership- it will be the best decision you’ve ever made!

Hybrid Car Insurance

You may have already begun considering buying a hybrid vehicle for a number of reasons. People consider buying these cars for two reasons. Because the hybrid vehicle is only partly operating on gasoline, it is considered to be good for the environment. Hybrid vehicles are considered to be the greenest vehicles available on the American auto market. Paying less for gasoline is another reason people choose to purchase hybrids. The cars run partially on some form of electricity.

Though this varies by make, generally the cars are plugged into outlets and a battery is charged which provides fuel for the car. Insurance for hybrid cars can sometimes be cheaper than it is for conventionally powered vehicles. Your greatest chance of getting a steep discount as the owner and driver of a hybrid vehicle exists if you belong to a certain demographic. As with driving sports cars, when you land in a certain demographic, your premiums are higher, when you drive a hybrid, you are very likely to have chances to save on your auto insurance. Those who are middle-aged with good driving records are pretty much guaranteed to get a 10% discount as long as they are willing to shop around and perhaps change providers in order to get that deal.

Because a lot of the people who drive hybrids are members of this demographic anyway, discounts for driving these “nature friendly” vehicles are pretty popular and your chances of pumping up that discount to 15 or 20% are not bad. Just be aware of what you are signing up for and be sure your benefits are sufficient. When searching for hybrid car insurance for your vehicle, begin by sitting down with your current insurance salesperson and explaining to them that you would like to know about discounts given to drivers and owners of hybrid vehicles.

If your insurer does provide a discount, you should find out at that point. With a little investigating and a lot of patience, you’ll be able to find an insurer, either online or in a print ad, which provides considerable discounts for owners of hybrids. Once you’ve located an insurer, be sure to take a good look at the coverage you’re getting line for line. Make sure that the “discount” is not just a reduction in services and a coinciding reduction in the bottom line cost. After all, it’s not a bargain unless you are indeed getting more for less or paying less for what you already have.

Buying Used Hybrid Cars

When you start your search for used hybrid cars the best thing you can use is common sense, much like you would when looking to purchase a standard used vehicle. There are however some additional rules to follow in order to ensure that you get the best deal for your money.

The very first thing you should do is to run a vehicle report on the car you intend to purchase. This can be done by using a company like Car Fax which will provide you with information as to how many previous owners the vehicle has had and if it has been involved in any accidents. If at all possible, try to establish the reason why the current owner is selling the car. Make sure that you scrutinize any available paperwork on the car as it is vitally important that the vehicle’s maintenance schedule was followed correctly.

Most hybrid car manufacturers issue their vehicles with a Factory Certificate which is as good as a warranty but only if the car has been properly serviced and maintained by hybrid vehicle professionals. Merely taking the vehicle for a test-drive is not sufficient at all as hybrid cars do not display the normal tell-tale signs of trouble as a standard vehicle would. Inspection by a mechanic specializing in hybrid vehicles is of paramount importance. If you are buying the car from a dealership, make sure that you get a warranty with the purchase. Low mileage on a used hybrid vehicle is obviously better than the alternative, as it would generally mean that there is less wear and tear on the components of the vehicle.

It would also make it easier to sell in future if you have started off your ownership of the car with low miles on its clock. Hybrid batteries are extremely expensive but are covered by a warranty from the car manufacturer. Make sure that the vehicle you intend to purchase has a valid warranty on the battery. When deciding to purchase a used vehicle, many people opt for hybrid cars as they believe that they will be entitled to a tax credit. Used hybrid vehicles are not eligible for the hybrid car tax credit.

Please make sure that you understand that when budgeting for a vehicle. Even though hybrid vehicles have been on the market for a relatively short period of time (since 2000), there are already quite a few models on sale in the used car market. These include Alfa Romeo Hybrids, BMW Hybrids, Cadillac Hybrids, Lexus Hybrids and many more!
