Used Hybrid Cars: Toyota Prius
Overall the 2007 Toyota Prius has been quite satisfactory but there are still some issues that need to be addressed. In my experience with used hybrid cars, is that the saving of fuel is not much when it comes to driving on the highway.
The amount of gas burned seems to be the same as my Volvo 960 sedan. City driving is another story, the car runs on battery power and an electrical motor for most driving under 20 miles per hour, 20 to 30 miles per hour sets up a combination between both mechanical engine and electrical.
Another issue I have with the car is the accessibility of the battery and being able to jump or recharge the battery. The location of the battery is a bit difficult to access and the terminals are quite small, often difficult to clamp with standard jumper cables. The car also has a power button and on one or two occasions, if the power button is not fully pressed the car will not shut off and you will come to a dead car in the morning.
There has recently been a recall dealing with the accelerator pedal. The pedal is too long and has been reported to get jammed or stuck under mats resulting in accidents and losing control of the car. The cars dash is laid out very well and everything is accessible and is in easy reach. With many of the controls being on the steering wheel itself.
One problem I have encountered is that the GPS is not usable while driving. This is done for safety reasons but can be quite bothersome when adjustments need to be made. I have seen other cars that have been creative in able to use the GPS and maintain safety.
As far as hybrid automobiles go this car is comfortable, not luxurious but better than average. The space available is quite amazing and deceptive. Plenty of headroom and legroom in both the front and back seats. Trunk space is standard for a hatchback with the backseats able to fold down and give more space. The look of the car is quite nice a bit futuristic and definitely built for aerodynamics, you will feel how light the car is and how it cuts through the wind and how gusts can actually push the car a bit.
Overall I am quite satisfied with the car and would recommend it to anyone who does extensive driving in a city environment, that is where the car will perform the best and the size of the car is small enough to accommodate for difficult parking situations. The money to be saved is not on long distances and high speed travel.
The Toyota Prius
Prius stands for prize in most people’s book when they think about hybrid cars. And that’s not just because a Toyota Prius looks pretty. In terms of used hybrid cars, the Toyota Prius has tons to offer car consumers. And it’s not as if potential hybrid car buyers don’t know that. News of the Toyota Prius is everywhere in the media.
Why? Well first of all, the Toyota Prius is a great kind of hybrid car. The model I speak of is Toyota’s petrol and electric hybrid model. It’s sharp, stunning, and is a best seller among hybrid cars. This car is so good that it was voted car of the year in Europe for the year 2005. Furthermore, in the United States, the Toyota Prius got an award that was very comparable to the car of the year award given in Europe. It’s even better if you can find a Prius used hybrid.
But the Toyota Prius hybrid car isn’t selling off the lots because it is the fastest car around. Some Toyota Prius’s have some pretty high profile owners. Among them are Leonardo Dicaprio, Harrison Ford, and Susan Sarandon. With these people driving this particular hybrid car, off course it’s selling like a hotcake. And the stars are doing a world of good for the sales of hybrid cars in general.
But while the success of the Toyota Prius is good for Toyota, it isn’t so good for its competitors who have yet to manufacture a hybrid car. Now Nissan, GM and other popular car manufacturers are trying to quickly get their act together and come up with their version of the hybrid car.
Some of these other manufacturers just did not believe that people would put their faith in the hybrid car as a solution to the constant fluctuation of oil prices. But the number of sales for the Toyota Prius hybrid car has certainly caused a change of tune for competing car manufacturers. So soon you might here of a best-selling Nissan hybrid or GM hybrid. And Toyota Prius buyers shouldn’t get too comfortable with their car because before they know it, something else will come out that they would like to have.
But as far as Toyota goes, claims have been made that in the near future, all Toyota engines will come with hybrid options. And Toyota also believes that it’s only a matter of time before all cars are hybrid cars or at least have hybrid engine options.
Next year, Toyota should be making Prius’s in China, and there, sales are also expected to boom. Toyota doesn’t want to leave anyone behind. Soon it may expand its manufacturing plants to locations in places like California. Surely, there are plenty of movie stars there who can be persuaded to buy this hybrid car.
The Toyota Prius is certainly making a name for hybrid cars, and hopefully the buck won’t stop with the Prius. Toyota probably has some other models of hybrids cars that are fast making there way to having top sales as well.
Used Hybrid Cars – Are They Better?
Everybody wants a great fuel-efficient car that can get great mileage. I’m sure you’ve thought to yourself that there has to be a better, more fuel efficient car out there. You’ve looked at the used hybrid cars that came out years ago and compare them to the newer models like that 2008 Toyota Prius and you see that the mileage of these types of vehicles have gotten better over the years.
You ask yourself where is the car that gets the best mileage out there, better than the hybrids. You think to yourself that maybe the dealer is hiding it in the back of the showroom for those who can pay a little more. I mean this car must surely exist. Could it be that there’s a compact conventional car there that gets better mileage than the hybrids? A small conventional is definitely not more fuel-efficient than a hybrid car because no conventional car is.
Maybe it’s a car that doesn’t run on fuel at all. You’ve seen those you-tube videos showing you someone who has his car running on vegetable oil. You figure that the automakers can do that, so where is that car?
Maybe it’s an electric car that doesn’t use any fuel. You can’t even compare an electric car to a hybrid since one doesn’t even use fuel. So where is this car?
The answer to all the questions you may have on fuel-efficient comparisons is…there isn’t any other car out there in today’s market that can get better mileage than a hybrid car. This is why the hybrid is such a popular car. If you look at the 2008 Toyota prius, you will see that it has a combined highway/city mileage of 46 miles to the gallon. All hybrid cars must get over the 40 miles per gallon mark
So after you looked high and low for any and all new discoveries out there that can compete with the hybrids, you can rest easy knowing that there isn’t one out there that can do it. So if you were afraid that after you purchased any new or used hybrid cars, that you would have found a better one, forget it. in this market, there is none that compare to the hybrids.
Don’t get me wrong though, in years to come there just might be a different type of vehicle that can beat the hybrids on mileage.
